A nor'easter, relatively mild weather by the time the New England Patriots and the New York Jets took the field, was still enough dampen any thrashing of the Jets by their division rival. Some five to eight inches fell in the overnight hours but the precipitation changed to sleet than to rain before game time. It was the wind that was the biggest factor, keeping both sides to mostly short gains and the running game. Pats QB Tom Brady had 14/27 passing attempts for 140 yards and 1 interception.

Jorge Posada, the New York Yankees catcher, has signed a four-year deal to stay in New York, valued at approximately $52 million. The team was reportedly finalizing the details of the agreement late yesterday and will make a formal announcement later this week. The contract would make Posada the highest paid catcher in the major leagues.

Two rookies in the World Series were up for Rookie of the Year in their respective conferences, but it was Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia and Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Ryan Braun that took the honors. Pedroia led the first place voting for AL Rookie of the Year by a wide margin, and Braun edged out Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki by two points.
