The top 5 cities in the U.S. with the highest average cost for a gallon of gasoline are all in California, according to the most recent study by Gasbuddy.com. The site compares average gas prices of cities around the nation, and pegged San Francisco as the highest, with an average per gallon price of $3.546 this week.

The United States government has removed the American bald eagle from the endangered species list in a formal announcement issued today by Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne from the Jefferson Memorial. Current estimates count around 10,000 mating pairs of bald eagles within the United States.

Subtropical storm Andrea, though considered benign, wins the distinction of being the first named storm of the year, forming Wednesday off of the ocean near Savannah, GA. Andrea will bring tropical storm conditions to Georgia and Florida, likely over the weekend.
