It sounds like a punch line, but to the World Toilet Organization, sanitation and toilets are no joke. (Though they could probably have found a less humorous website address than worldtoilet.org.) Their mission is to improve sanitation and sewage treatment worldwide, and provide toilet access to 2.6 billion people who don't have access to one.

Labels on bottles of sunscreen have come under scrutiny in the European Union, whose Consumer Protection Commissioner is pushing for accurate labeling. A ban on the word "sunblock" and phrasing that suggests "100 percent sun protection" will be part of new rules that go into effect today.

A new law goes into effect in Great Britain today that will ban smoking in all covered public places. That includes pubs and restaurants, but also includes all public buildings and inside taxis. A smoking ban already existed in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and now extends to the rest of the country.
