02/08/2008: Disney's Hollywood Studios Adds American Idol Attraction

Set to open later this year, Disney has purchased the rights to open an American-Idol branded live attraction. The show, which is still in development, will run up to 8 times a day with Disney park visitors standing in as contestants, audience members...and judges. The attraction will be at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida.

Under the current plan, interested participants would audition in front of a Disney producer in order to be selected to perform during the live show. Those that make it to the live show will get hair and make-up styling and limited vocal coaching. Winners from each of the shows will compete at the end of the day in a grand finale.

As a bonus perk, Disney plans on offering a front-of-the-line pass to any finale champion to a real American Idol audition, though the real competition has a minimum age requirement of 16 years old.
